Dr. Atkin came to Yates Center fifty-two years ago, looking for a small community in need of a physician. Since that time, nearly every family in Woodson County has been in influenced by his care. Before ending his obstetrics practice, Dr. Atkin delivered more than 2,000 babies. His commitment to his patients and their families was honored in 2008 when he was named the Kansas Family Physician of the Year by the Kansas Academy of Family Physicians.
Dr. Atkin received his undergraduate degree in zoology from Oklahoma State University in Stillwell, the went on to medical school at the University of Oklahoma.
He retired from clinic duty in 2015, but remains a valuable part of the CHS medical staff specializing in geriatric care for area nursing home residents.
