The leading cause of death in Coffey County men is heart disease, according to the Kansas Department of Health & Environment. Learn more about men’s health at the next installment of Coffey Health System’s Lunch & Learn program on Tuesday, June 19. The guest speaker, Coffey County Hospital Emergency Department Supervisor Vernon Peters, is an experienced emergency registered nurse and paramedic.
High blood pressure is a common and dangerous condition. This increases the risk for heart disease and stroke. Nearly one-third of all U.S. males are affected by heart disease with one-in-six affected by a stroke.
“Our goal is to provide public health knowledge to improve cardiovascular health for all, reduce the burden, and eliminate disparities associated with heart disease and stroke,” states Peters. “Older adults aren’t the only people at risk of heart disease–it could happen at any age.”
Men’s health month, designated in June, promotes awareness of preventable health problems and encourages early detection and treatment of diseases among men and boys. While the Lunch & Learn focuses on men’s health, wives, mothers, and other concerned women are encouraged to attend.
The noon presentation takes place in Coffey County Hospital’s Allen Woods 2 conference room.
“Please note that this event is on Tuesday, June 19, instead of our traditional Friday schedule,” said Director of Marketing, Tracy Campbell. “We look forward to welcoming the community for this special noon presentation.”
