Newman Regional Health (NRH) and Coffey Health System (CHS) have entered into a shared services agreement designed to strengthen rural specialty care. The partnership will begin with general surgery services, with both organizations committed to expanding specialty offerings in line with community needs.

Nicole Branson joined the nutritional services team at Coffey County Hospital a year ago. She brings new ideas and initiatives that benefit the entire CHS family, and today she received Coffey Health System’s BEE Award (Being Excellent Everyday).

Kristin Baker is more than just an outstanding ultrasound technologist. She’s a teacher, a mentor, a colleague, and a role model whose impact reaches far beyond the walls of her department. She is also Coffey Health System’s 2025 Heart of Health Care Award recipient.

During the presentation on August 27, CHS Chief Executive Officer Stacy Augustyn explained the importance of the award because it is determined by colleagues who work together every day and know each other’s work.

Vernon Peters, R.N., was honored with Coffey Health System’s DAISY Award® For Extraordinary Nurses during a ceremony on June 10. The DAISY Foundation recognizes the super-human efforts nurses perform every day. Peters has been part of the CHS family for 31 years, serving as a paramedic and currently as an emergency department nurse.

A new event, "Brain Health Day," offers free appointments with KU Med staff at Coffey County Medical Center in Burlington for anyone concerned about potential dementia symptoms.

Coffey County Hospital Laboratory Assistant Holly Peters is a shining example of dedication in the healthcare field. Her unwavering commitment to patient care was recognized on September 5, when the Kansas Hospital Association (KHA) presented her with a 2024 Heart of Health Care Award.

When Ed and Alice Archer moved back to rural Coffey County twenty-four years ago, it was a homecoming. Ed had taught for many years in Burlington, Humboldt, and LeRoy. The close-knit environment and community they so enjoyed became even more important when Ed developed Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and Congestive Heart Failure (CHF). He quickly found familiar faces and names throughout Coffey Health System with former students and the children of former students.
