The Outpatient Infusion Department at Coffey County Hospital provides friendly care for patients who require infusions of medication, IV hydration, blood transfusions, and other therapies for infections, arthritis, and other conditions.
An infusion is where a medication or solution is given into the patient’s bloodstream. This is done by inserting a small needle and cannula called an IV (intravenous catheter) into a vein. This is similar to a blood draw but instead of removing blood, medication or solution is administered.
An injection or a “shot” is where a medication is given directly through the skin and into body tissue with a needle. Some medications are required to be given in the subcutaneous tissue while others are required to be given in the muscle tissue.
The Outpatient Infusion Department is located within Coffey County Hospital. Enter through the Emergency/Outpatient Entrance on the west side of the hospital for registration. We ask that you please bring photo identification and your insurance cards with you for every visit.
