Coffey County Hospital offers a new service for fitness enthusiasts and those who want to improve their overall health. Radiology Supervisor Scott Sutherland will discuss Body Composition Scanning at a Lunch & Learn presentation at noon on Friday, August 9, at Coffey County Hospital in Burlington. This free event begins at noon. Seating is limited, so register today at (620) 364-4507 or CLICK HERE to register online.
“Hologic’s Body Composition Scan is painless and takes just a few minutes, and it gives you an accurate assessment and realistic weight-loss goals,” Sutherland said. “While you might want to lose 40 pounds, the scan could determine that only 20 pounds is realistic and healthy. Unlike the traditional Body Mass Index (BMI), which is just a number, body composition testing gives a complete assessment.”
Patients receive a detailed printout that includes their body statistics and a color map showing their bone structure and where the fat and lean mass are located. Body Composition Scans use low-dose radiation and can be an ongoing part of one’s fitness journey, with reports tracking progress over time.
This scan is also used for monitoring certain diseases and the effects of some medical therapies. For those on weight management programs, the results may help determine your risk of developing obesity-related conditions such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, metabolic syndrome, and osteoarthritis.
The Lunch and Learn series is a community service of Coffey Health System.
